2018 Volkswagen Atlas vs 2017 Honda Pilot

Full-size SUVs are still some of the most popular models in the U.S., and with so many options, choosing one can be a daunting task. Volkswagen decided to join the fun with the release of the manufacturer’s first full-size, three-row SUV, the Atlas. To highlight how the Atlas stacks up against the competition, we did a comparison of the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas vs 2017 Honda Pilot.

At first glance, the Pilot is noticeably more affordable than the Atlas, but this is actually an indication that the Atlas offers many more standard features than the Pilot, not only on the base trim but across the entire lineup. Both SUVs sport a V6 engine, but the Pilot offers more horsepower while the Atlas offers more torque. Both SUVs offer a 5,000-pound towing capacity, but the Pilot offers over 10 more feet of cargo space. Finally, the Atlas is equipped a more advanced AWD system—4MOTION—with four driving modes to match road conditions.
